Information and Tips
Australians, New Zealanders & South Africans need a working visa. You can apply for this on entry to Britain however you will have to wait until you receive it before we can find work for you. By far the best way is to obtain a working visa from the British Embassy in your country which is valid as soon as you arrive. A working holiday permit will cover up to two years for 17-28 year olds; this allows you to work here either part time for two years or full time for one year. If you possess an ancestral visa you are permitted to work in England for up to four years. This is also renewable.
Families prefer girls to stay 6-12 months as frequent changes are unsettling for the children involved. Drivers, particularly of manual cars, are in great demand and we advise you to apply for an international licence before you leave home.
The most successful applicants always turn up to interviews well presented and on time. Nobody expects you to arrive for interview in a designer suit but smart trousers or a sensible skirt are advised. Everyday wear is more relaxed but please be warned, expectations are slightly more formal than at home. We have an increasing number of foreign clients who employ our applicants abroad. Feedback from these nannies is very positive with many of them having enjoyed the extension to their travel plans as well as the acquisition of another language.
Qualifications in nanny work are valued by us and our clients. However we place many applicants without qualifications if they have good experience with children.
The secret to success is to be cheerful, flexible, responsible and fun with a sense of humour and a genuine love of children.
